No longer content with observing,
the girls moved out into the front
lines-The actual competition–
Being thrilled with the inter-school
contest- The uniforms- Not
protesting the slight inconve–
niences- Learning the impor–
tance of teamwork- Dragging
out of bed to those 6:30 tennis
and swimming practices- Beat–
ing yourself ragged with exer–
cising and exercising- Trying
hard to stifle the small groan
when coach yells "All right! Three
laps!"- Experiencing the joy of
victory- The bitterness of defeat
-The trying of your patience
when you can't understand why
your team mates are doing what
they are - Learning how to
throw a javelin, jump a hurdle,
serve a tennis ball, swim the but–
terfly, slug a volleyball, and make
a free-throw- Bracing for a
game- Heading for a scholar–
ship- Aiming for bigger and
better things.
