we had a "Sarah Bernhardt" in our midst , and oh - the hidden talents of
the doctors!
Some of us left Methodist for affiliations that year. Although anxious
to see other hospitals and broaden our education , leaving our " home" and
friends was not easy, but new places and people were met and enjoyed.
Once again we realized we had completed another year. At last we were
Seniors! How impossible it seemed . Only yesterday, it seemed , we were
questioning our ability to make a bed with mitered corners , and now we had
reached the place where two other classes of students regarded us as walking
textbooks of nursing care.
More specialties were met during our last year. Obstetrics gave us a
look into a true miracle - birth. Our maternal instincts were aroused by
the children in Pediatrics. Life at Middletown helped us to understand our–
selves better, and equipped us to care for those with mental or emotional
problems.
We had come so far in these years , but friendships were still being
formed and growing . It was coming to a close so quickly - leaving our
friends and life here at Methodist would be hard to face. Graduation pictures
had been taken and plans were being made for our Prom and Commencement
ceremonies.
Looking back is fun , but difficult. All of those frivolous times together,
the fun of living with others who are working towards the same goal- the
relief of another's suffering , the studying to be better nurses , and the united
worship and thanks to God, who has given us the opportunity to serve Him
through our work with others. These are only a few of the things we will
remember. Yes , thinking of those years is fun , but many an eye is far from
dry at the thought of ending this phase of our lives . True , we are not through
learning or growing, and we never will be .
Words to express our feelings seem so inadequate now. To all those
who have helped us , we wi II always be gratefu l. Our parents , friends and loved
ones have meant so much to us - helping us over the rough spots , giving
encouragement, love and just being there . Our thanks are sincere. Now we
only hope to make you proud of us by being the kind of nurses and women
who will be a credit to you , our school , and our God .
