1963 as the news of a plane era. h spread rapidly throug·hout the
Lehigh Valley. The jet airliner with eighty-two per.ons aboard ex–
ploded in mid-air not far from it de. tination, Philadelphia.

High School and did his pre-medical work at Villanm·a U ni,·er. ity
and :\fuhlrnbrrg College. llis education \\'as intrnuptecl by World
War II when he sen·cd as a ' ra\1' pilot. Dr. JJcfrlc eamed
his rnrdical degree at Temple 'Cnin·r. ity , chool of J\lrdicinc and
did his postgraduate \\'Ork there. Ilr graduntcd from medical school
in 1950 and S<'I'\Td his internship at Sacred II<'art Jlospital. lie
thrn took a residency in obstetric and gynecology at Ternplc Hos–
pital. In 1956 he wn appro\'ed for prartirr in ob.tetrirs and p;ync–
colog,·. In ndclition to nwm· lon g hours of ckdicntion to his
work: Dr. Ilefelr frequrnth· found time to lrrture to the nursing
students during their clinical exprrienn· in ma t<·r nity nursing. As
