Big upset of Norwich

highlights grid season

The varsity football team, after suffering heavy

losses through graduation, comple ted a six and two

season by defeating arch rival Norwich and gaining a

ti e for first place in the Iroquois League.

Led by all-Iroquois League players Bill Wilsey,

Steve Colwell, Terry Cook, Ed Syron, and Ray Cower,

the Jacke ts followed an early season loss to Ilion with

five strai ght victories in league competition.

The season was climaxed by a victory over un–

defeated orwich. The defense, led by co-captain Joe

Mitche ll, and the offense, highlighted by a balanced

running anci passing attack, defeated the Purple Tor–

nadoes on the ir home fi e ld.

The victory avenged a defeat the previous season

by Norwich and marked the second straight three-way

ti tie tie for the Jackets.
