The 1969-70 edition of the Yonkers High School basket–
ball team was successful beyond all expectations. Presea–
son predictions were gloomy, as Coach Magat was forced
to rebuild his squad after 1969 graduation had taken
away his starting five of a year ago. Another problem fac–
ing the Bulldogs was an overall lack of team height, with
the starting center turning out to be Julian Garcia at an
exaggerated 6'1". The forward positions were manned by
Bob Terry and Bob Pamplin, while Wendell AI ton
teamed with either Jimmy Dessasaure, Angelo Petrone,
or Chris Curran to handle the backcourt chores. These
seven were primarily responsible for a hustling, fast–
breaking, ball-hawking style of play, three factors which

enabled the Bulldogs to neutralize opponent height ad–
vantages. The Bulldogs operated without a permanent
captain this year, as CoachMagat rotated the honor among
his senior players. Another aspect of the team's play was
an overabundance of personal fouls, with Julian Garcia
leading the way by fouling out of an incredible thirteen
games.
This year's team finished third in the Yonkers City
League with an even 4-4 record. There were several high
and low point during the course of the sea on with the
invitation to the Section I Tournament coming as a par–
ticular honor for the team.
