With Step 5 accomplished, Viewmont over layton, the
Viewmont Vikings entered the State Tournament. Their
opponents were the Bulldogs of Provo High. The first
half produced only two scores, one by each school, to
end the half with Provo ahead 7-6. Though the score
indicated a close game, it was rough going for the
Vikes as the much bigger Bulldogs plowed out the
yardage. After the third quarter started, it seemed
repetitious of the first ha If with Provo scoring
quickly making the score 14-6. But then things
turned around with Viewmont dominating the rest of the
game and winning in the end 22-14 with three touch–
down runs by Greg Day. With this win we now had to
play West on their field. For the Vikings the first half
proved quite benefiting as they went to the locker room
at the half, ahead 21-19. Disaster struck in the
second half with the big plays going the way of the
Panthers and the penalties the way of the Vikings.
The final score was Viewmont 28, West 39.
