110/Girls' P.E.
The question of teaching
sex education along with
health and P.E. has aroused
much controversy within the
state and was a concern faced
by the P.E. department. Mrs.
LouNell Taylor, head of the
girls' department, explained
that teachers at West Monroe
are not certified to teach sex
education.
Changes occurred in the
girls' P.E. department as Mrs.
Claudine Ellerman replaced
Mrs. Dot Mock, who was on
medical leave for the year.
Mrs. Ellerman, who taught
English II B last year, will
resume teaching English next
year despite her preference for
the new position.
" I
like
teaching P.E. more than
English because I majored in
P.E.,"" said Mrs. Ellerman.
Other changes included a
track meet between different
classes, aerobic exercises and
jumping ropes.
Some things do not change,
however, as Mrs. Ora Lee
Willis taught tenth grade P.E.,
and Mrs. Pat Antley continued
to teach recreation and
sophomore classes.
