

'Excessive' absences
cause change
in
day
of prom
That Friday was just another school day,
w1th classes scheduled as usual. But Friday,
March
30, 1979,
was not a typical school
day. It was the day of the Jun1or-Senior Prom
and JUSt the • excuse that 74 7 students
n eded to avoid com10g to school. It was also
the excuse needed by

come to school to have a parent come to
the school to check them out before the end
of the day.
" Excessive absences" on prom day,
;;ccord1ng to Mr. Truett Thorn, prom sponsor,
resulted 1n th1s year's prom being scheduled
on a Saturday mght, Mr. Thorn said that

couples had attended the previous year.
Those young people were d1rectly responsible
for approximately

were t1ckets, formals. tuxedo rentals, d10ner,
pictures, gasoline.

The band Jett was selected by a student
comm1ttee in September to perform at this
year's prom, which featured a southern
theme.
