Varsity Gymnastics

Because of the great enthusiasm for this sport,

a gymnastic team was organized for the first time

this year. The same enthusiasm was also evident

in the practices and meets, as indicated by the

team's strong showing in competition. With sev–

eral excellent individual performances, the team

placed sixth in the ity Meet. Another satis–

fying finish was provided by the young gymnastic

team when it placed a surprising thirteenth in the

state, weH ahead of the three other city teams

which had also started competition this year.

Among the fine exhibitions of the young Pur–

gold unit were David Romant's sixth in the State

Meet and his third in the ity Meet on the long–

horse; Tom Wick's fourth

in

the City Meet side–

horse; and John Pollack's highest point total for

the team.
