Again proving to the City Conference

that it was a football powerhouse to be

contended with, Washington started the

year with three decisive victories and

gave indications that they might go all

of the way. However, at this point of the

season, the injury toll, which had slowly

been mounting, finally caught up with

the Tonians. Plagued by this sudden

rash of walking wounded, the gridders

lost their first conference game. The out–

look wasn't any brighter as the Purgolders

prepared for their next duel in the

all important Homecoming game with

Juneau. Still hindered by the absence

of first string performers, Washington's

"Tradition of Champions" spirit and per–

tinacity produced a fourth quarter touch–

down and victory. Finishing with an im–

pressive five and three record in the well–

balanced city league, Washington ended

the season in a tie for fourth place.
