Dropped baton
Rebels
gives
second place
Hopes of regaining the first place
spot in District 3-AAAA sparked the
Rebel track team to early victories
in the Twin Cities Invitational Meet
and the Rebel Relays.
The Twin Cities Invitational saw
the Rebels coast to victory over area
teams.
Rebs didn't break any records in
the Rebel Relays, but managed to
gain an unquestionable victory over
all other competition.
The going got rough when the
tracksters faced Shreveport area
teams in the La. Tech Invitational in
which they placed fourth , and the
regional meet in which they placed
seventh. Hopes that sparked the
track team to early victories were
slowly diminished.
In the district meet, the Rebels
had a chance to win their fihh team
title in six years, but it was not to
be as they dropped the baton on the
last exchange in the 400-meter
relay.
Although finishing second in
district again, the '79 track team did
not have a disappointing season.
David Outley set records in the low
hurdles while Ricky Sanders led the
state all season in the discus,
earning him All-American status.
Other tracksters who consitently
added up points included Gerald
Branson, Vincent Ware, Randy
Woodard, Kelvin Williams, Kevin
Jacobs, Mike Lawrence, Clay Cole,
and David Newman.
