Outstanding Seniors R-ewarded for Accomplishments
ABOVE LEFT, Shirley Jones contributed to many
areas of school during her three years at South.
Her interest in music led her to being a member
of the Concert Choir, the Sabre Singers and the
Chamber Choir of which she served one year as
the vice president. She was elected to the Junior
Class Council, was on the Flag Corps her junior
year and in her senior year she became a
lettergirl. Shirley was also a member of Red
Cross and in her two years in Project Aries she
spent one as secretary. In lOth and lith grades
she was nominated for Governors School and in
12th grade she was a contestant in the Miss
South Pageant. In the community she served as
a cabin counselor for the Anita Stroud Camp.
ABOVE RIGHT, Helping with the morning
announcements was only one of Amy Turner's
tasks as Vice President of the Executive
Committee. She also served as President of the
ICC. held the office of General Member of the
Sophomore Class Council and was Secretary of
the Executive Committee. Other government
related activities included being a delegate to
Mars Hill, the Western District Convention, the
N.C., State Convention, and the Civitan Youth
Conference. Amy's other school activities
included being a member of the Tennis Tearn in
lOth grade, a cheerleader in the lith grade and
a member of the Concert Choir, the Beta Club,
and the lnterkeys service club. She was also
extensively involved in Young Life and
Campaigners. RIGHT, As a member of the
Executive Committee, David Snepp. participat–
ed in organizing dances and fund raising
activities as well as being chairman of the
registration committee during the NCASC. His
community activities included being on the
WSOC-TV Channel 9 Youth Advisory Board.
which advised their news department on
interesting school related activities, and was
President of the Sailings Explorers. which also
entitled him to serve as a representative to the
Charlotte Explorers President Association.
David also took on the responsibility of working
as a lead foreman at Carowinds.
