lEFT, One of Georganna McDonald's several
activities included being · a scorekeeper at
basketball games. She was also a member of the
National Beta Club. the lnterkeys service club in
which she served one year as secretary, and she
contributed much as a member of the Sabre's Blade
Staff. In the community, Georganna was an active
member of her youth group at Christ lutheran
Church while maintaining a twenty-hour work week
at Sears Department Store . BElOW lEFT,
Alexander Gray proved to be something of a
musical wonder during his years at South. For three
years he was a member of the All State Band,
occupying first chair for two years. This entitled
him to audition for the Honors Band which covers
the entire state of North Carolina, and in 1978 he
won a position with the band. He was also selected
to play with "The United States Navy Band," won
an excellent rating in instrumental music at a
Winthrop Solo Ensemble Contest and was a
nominee in music for Governors School. Not totally
limited to music, Alexander was also a Junior Honor
Marshall and a member of the track team. BElOW,
Catherine Willeams awed and pleased everyone by
being chosen Homecoming Queen, Miss South. and
Carousel Princess, which entitled her to a $1CXX)
scholarship to UNCC. all in one year. She also won
the local Junior Miss title and was a contestant in
the N.C. Junior Miss Pageant. At school Catherine
was a cheerleader for three years and was a
member of the SOS club, the Drama Club. and the
DECA club. Her community work included being a
member of the Gay Porter Amateur Dance
Company, teaching gymnastics at the YWCA. and
being a qualified judge for gymnastics meets.
