The Girls Varsity basketball team had
many outstanding games which culminated
in a very rewarding season. Led by Coach
Estelle Barentine, the girls finished their
season two consecutive years. in third
place. One of their most highlighted games
was against West Mecklenburg in which
the girls defeated the first place team in
the conference 43-37. They were down as
they entered the last quarter. however
hard work and dedication to win the game
helped them to outscore and defeat the
Indians . Another extremely rewarding
game for the girls was against their arch
rivals Myers Park. The game reached the
final nine seconds of the game when
forward Leslie Sanders received a pass to
score. The Lady Sabres advanced by one
point to win the game. In tournament play
they lost their first round game to North
Mecklenburg which eliminated them from
the state playoffs. Despite losing the last
game of the season. the team won a total
of fourteen games.
