While many students were planning
for the future, they benefitted from the
knowledge gained in their history classes.
Anna Majors said, " From what I learned
in history class, I know that it affects my
daily life more than I thought
it
did." The
majority of history students agreed with
her assessment. From the Roman Empire
of antiquity to the global community of
today, across ages and the seven conti–
nents, students studied the important dates
and events ofthe world. While the material
was not always the most exciting, students
found that a knowledge of past events was
essential to their well-being, especially
af–
ter the tragic events of September 11,
2001. No longer did students feel that the
content was irrelevant to their futures.
As
teachers lectured on the past, students
saw, as never before, the direct correlation
between now and then.
