In the fall of 1978, John

joined other ambitious juniors

in taking the National Merit

Test, and a year later, he was

national semifinalist.

" I was taking my absentee

card to the office, when Mrs.

Ashbrook stopped me and told

me the news. I was really

shocked," John recalled .

With plans to attend La.

Tech for a major in electric

engineering John said that

being a semifnalist gave him

confidence to keep up with

his studies and strive on

harder.

The 3-year member of

JROTC, is a member of Rebel

Band, Key Club , Knights of

the United Realm, said he had

hopes of scoring higher on the

final test and using the score

to help with a scholarship for

his college studies.
