Activities During Homecoming
Help To Boost School Spirit
Many activities were planned in prepara–
tion for the 1978 Homecoming. The week of
September 30-0ctober 6, sponsored by the
Student Council, was an eventful one with
festivities planned for each day of the
week. Monday and Tuesday were Mr. and
Ms. Irresistible days . Students collected
ribbons from those of the opposite sex who
were conned into talking to them. The two
winners were given tickets to the dance.
Wednesday was cost ume day. Students
dressed up as cowboys. cowgirls , and
Indians. There were even a few saloon girls.
Anyone visiting South would have thought
the school had gone wild . But after all, that
was the purpose. Thursday was the carnival
in the mall. Some of South 's c lub 's
participated by designing a game booth.
"Odyssey" a band of South students,
performed for musical entertainment .
Friday started off with the traditional pep
rall y. The lettergirls, cheerleaders , ROTC.
and the pep band performed . The winners
of the contests held during the week were
announced. At the conclusion of the Pep
Rally. "Odyssey's" performance got the
whole gym rocking .
Friday night was very excit mg with the
football team defeating West Mecklenburg
28-6. The halftime was the highlight of the
evening. First, the band performed an
e xcellent show. Second , the Homecoming
Court turned out to be even more beautiful
than e xpected . All the girls looked radiant
under the lights of the stadium. Catherine
Williams was named the new Homecoming
Oueen.
After the game there was a dance in the
school cafeteria. Music was provided by
"Phase II" and "Dr. Funkenstein and the
Disco Kid ."
Homecoming ' 78 will be a night long
remembered in the hearts of the football
team. the homecoming nominees , and
certainly the student body.
