Diamond men

With only two starters returning,

Coach Jimmy Aulds took his baseball

team to Baton Rouge for the second

straight year. On the way to the

playoffs. the diamondmen posted a

17-4 record and an 8-0 district record

in 1979.

The district included 3-1 and 5-2

victories over Ouachita; 14-4 and 9-2

victories over Neville; and 3-0 and 8-2

victories over Bastrop.

Aher going through district un–

defeated, the Rebs faced Barbe in a

tough bi-district game. West Monroe.

had runners left on the bases at the

end of most innings. but it wasn't until

the seventh when the Rebs got what

was needed on a homerun with two

on. making it 3-0.

For the regional championship, West

Monroe defeated Huntington 6-5.

Committing four errors in two innings,

the Rebs fell behind early, but rallied

for four runs to pull out the victory.

Rain in Baton !Rouge postponed the

playoff game against East Ascension

for one day. When the game finally

began, the Rebs fell behind 6-1 after

three innings. Down most of the game,

the diamondmen rallied to take a 7-6

lead into the final inning.
