Forfeits. Forfeits by other

teams is what helped keep

West Monroe out of the

playoffs in 1979. After a

"meaningless" game with

Carroll, the Rebs found out

that they would have to

defeat Bastrop to

go

to the

playoffs, but that they must

do

it by 14 points because

Ouachita had used an ineligible

player in its victory over

Carroll and had to forfeit the

win.

The forfeit gave Carroll a

2-2 district record. If West

Monroe, 1-2, defeated

Bastrop, 2-1, there would be

a three-way tie for second

behind Neville. If there was a

three-way tie, the point

system would have to be

brought in.

The point system showed

that the Rebs must defeat

Bastrop by 14 or not go to

the playoffs. The Rebels won

the game, but by 11 points,

giving the Rams a playoff
