Model United Nations and Youth
Legislature introduced students to the fasci–
nating world of politics. Model UN mem–
bers attended a regional conference where
they acted as leaders of foreign countries.
These leaders presented proposals regard–
ing human rights and global concerns to the
General Assembly, which would then vote
to adopt or refuse these suggestions.
Youth Legislature gave students a
first-hand look into the workings of the com–
plex world of governing with a more local
perspective. Youth
in
Government mem–
bers spent four days at a conference at the
state capitol where they participated
in
state
government activities such as bill proposal
and defense. These two organizations taught
students not only the value of persuasive
public speaking, but enlightened the young
minds and future leaders of tomorrow with
the global issues of today.
