Science Olympiad, a national or–
ganization for high schools across the
country, provided students with a fo–
rum for exploring the mysterious com–
plexities of the scientific world. Teams
gathered together at the regional, state,
and national levels to compete with one
another's science prowess. Each mem–
ber spent the year preparing for a series
of science-related events ranging from
analyzing statistical data to complicated
scientific experiments. Studentsnormally
competed in groups of two to three when
entering competition. "Competion is ex–
citing and challenging, even
if
you don't
win," said Irene Sanchez. When a team
performed exceptionally well, they had
the opportunity to compete with other
teams from around the country at ana–
tional conference. Mrs. Karen Mauldin,
team sponsor, cited that the greatest ad–
vantage of joining was"getting to inter–
act with other people who share your
interest and, above all, to have
fun."
