Spanish enrollment was up
somewhat, according to Mrs.
Gerry Marionneaux, who
attributed the increase to
interest generated through
Foreign Language Festival last
year.
Both Mrs. Marionneaux and
Mrs. Wanda Gates, French
teacher, planned to continue
the Foreign Language Festivals
in the spring.
As a money-raiser, French
Club students sponsored a
Friendship Week and sold
candy canes and mistletoe to
be delivered the week of
Christmas. A flea market also
generated some $40 for the
club.
Spanish students prepared a
booklet with materials on
Spanish-speaking countries. To
obtain money for a trip ,
Spanish students sold candy
as a fund-raiser .
At the La. Tech Foreign
Language Festival, Nita Roach
and Becky McClendon won
first in individual song in
Spanish, and a skit in Spanish
won second.
A tour of a famous French
style home and restaurant near
St. Francisville was tentatively
scheduled by French students.
Showing values of French in
a student's life-especially in
French Louisiana-and getting
enjoyment from current uses
of the language terms were
among the purposes of the
French classes, according to
Mrs. Gates.
