Outstanding Tearn Places Second In Conference
The soccer team had a very impressive
season this year with seven wins , one loss,
and two ties. This record placed them
second in the conference, tied with Myers
Park. In conference play during the season
South out-scored their opponents thirty–
six to eleven. Again this year Coach
Baldwin led the team with the help of
captains Matthew Ahrendt. Mike Samann,
and Bob Mitcheltree. A strong offense
consisting of Andy Hitchcock , Bob
Mitcheltree, Holger Ebert. Mark Brayford,
Ruben Toral scored a total of thirty-two
goals . Supporting the offense at the
halfback position were Matthew Ahrendt.
Sean Crowley, and Mike Samann. The half
backs had the difficult job of playing both
offense and defense. For the second year
in a row Junior Roger Burgess led the
defense as goalie, allowing only twenty-two
goals in fifteen games. In the fullback
position Matt Gruebrneyer led the
fullbacks by playing in all fifteen games. He
was ably supported by Mike Broome, and
Mal Mclean.
