State Title Hopes

by
Close losses
The girls' tennis team had a downfall early
in the season losing to Myers Park in their
first match. This was a surprising loss
considering the team only lost two players
out their line-up from last year. Determin–
iation and pride from the players resulted
in a quick recovery t? defeat North
Mecklenburg and Olympic. A close loss to
East Mecklenburg by the score of six to
three made the team come back and win
all the remaining matches of the season.
The team won the sectional tournament
with an overall score of forty-nine points
where as the runner-up team only had
twenty-seven. They advanced to the
regionals held in Morganton, North
Carolina, and captured that title by
defeating Page High School of Greensboro
by a score of eleven points. Due to the
extremely tough competition, the team fell
to three teams which resulted in a fourth
place finish in the state.
The team consisted of two seniors, six
juniors, and two sophomores which will aid
the effort for next year's team.
