Superior
The South Mecklenburg Marching Band,
under the direction of Mr. Rayfield Neel,
Mr. Jack Fetner, and student teacher, Mr.
Hugo Dorsheck, enjoyed a successful year.
Led by Drum Majors Mike Dunn and Mike
Sheltra, the Marching Sabres, consisting of
the Band, the Drum Line, the Rifle Line, the
Flag Corps and two feature twirlers
performed at al the football games and
several competitions.
During the 1978-1979 marching season, the
band attended the Fort Mill Exhibition, in
Fort Mill, S.C.; the Richmond County Band
Festival in Rockingham, N.C. achieving a
rating of excellent ; and the Mullins Band
Fest ival in Mullins, S.C. achieving a
superior rat ing. The Marching Sabres also
participted as the Honor Band in the
Carousel Parade.
