Is Successful
On November 30. December I and
December 2. the South Mecklenburg
Drama Department presented its produc–
t ion of
Blithe Spirit.
a comedy by the late
British playwright. Noel Coward. Auditions
were held the first week of October. and
out of several aspiring young actors and
actresses. seven were chosen.
Blithe Spirit
is the story of an author.
Charles Condomine. who 111 an effort to
gain material for a new book. invites an
eccentric. happy -go - lucky medium.
Madame Arcati. to hold a seance. Also
invited to participate 111 the seance with
Charles and his wife Ruth are Dr. and Mrs.
Bradman. old family friends of the
Condomines. Dunng the e en111g. the
ghost of Charles' first w1fe . Elvira. is
conjured up and in an effort to murder
Charles. she accidentaly kills Ruth .
Although
Blithe Spirit
maintained a British
flare after being Americanized. the actions
and expressions of the actors led to the
credibility of the plot and the ultimate
success of the show.
Blith Spirit
was
directed by Mrs . Chns Rowell and
thoroughly enjoyed by all who saw it.
